While doing research for her documentary film-in-progress “Rescue Me” about homeless dogs and the people who rescue them Jude Artenstein, the Festival organizer/founder was staggered by the increasing numbers of dogs abandoned or adversely effected from our slowing economy, job losses and record foreclosures . Motivated to do something in her home community to help the dogs and the dedicated rescue community at large, the Festival was launched.
On Sunday March 1, 2009 with the help of volunteers, rescue groups, shelters, sponsors, vendors, auction prize contributors, entertainers, exceptional individuals providing their expertise, and San Diego’s outstanding community oriented media outlets the Festival was kicked-off.
Several thousand people with their pets celebrated our furry best friends at this special event. 35+ Rescue groups and shelters from across San Diego County attended many with adoptable dogs that found loving new homes. We applaud the new parents and their wisdom to ADOPT A PET. We applaud San Diego for coming out in support of this worthy cause. |
